2. How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?

There are similarities that cross between the main task (music video) and the two ancillary tasks (Website and Digi-pac). The similarities between the three tasks is the 'Nerd' theme, to start off with the main character in the video is dressed up as a geeky character, this is the common theme which runs through the video, digipak and webpage. In the website and Digi-pac the 'Nerd' theme is represented through the red geeky glasses The geek is necessary for the song and video, as it represents the outcast and keeping away from society and not getting involved with anyone until he sees his first love, the 'Nerd' is such a strong image, but we decided not to use the whole geek image for the ancillary tasks, but just a certain area of a 'Geek' so the glasses were essential to use for the ancillary tasks.

When it came to the writing of the the website and Digi-pac we wanted to use the same type of writing which was significant, this was done by having it in red, this matched the red 'Geek' glasses and the writing within them as well  as the  text we used for the webpage and Digi-pac this makes it unique, as shown in the two ancillary tasks, this is just another similarity. 

 The only major difference across the three media in which we created  was colour of the geek style glasses in the Digi-pac and website compared the glasses used in the music video. 

As shown throughout the three tasks, similarities which include the geek as a whole, the red glasses and red writing within the glasses on the two ancillary tasks, by using the same logo (red glasses) it makes them look professional and creates an image for the song of Maisie Mae. The logo is shown by of the character in glasses, even though the main character in the video has black glasses and the glasses are red in the two ancillary tasks, even though the glasses are different they still give the 'Nerd' image.

1. In what way does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

The genre of our music video was a popular music style which follows most music styles by having a narrative and story. Since the song is about a Geeky youth who falls in love with one of their classmates and then ends up dating her after changing his appearance etc. We matched the lyrics into the song when the main singer is in the video for a chorus or two, if the singer wasn’t in it, the video matched the storyline of the lyrics.

Like most pop videos, we used a main character to base the video around, Since the song is about a geek, we decided to base the video around Geeky character, Also like main pop videos we had the artist who sang the song, to be a part of the video and sing along to certain sections of the song.

            An example of this is the music video of Taylor Swifts ‘Love Story’. Even though she represents the main character and the singer of the song, it still is the same concept of what we represented in our music video.

The main representation in our video is the geeky looking teenagers/youths. Our video presents young people as smart, scared youths and unpopular, although we know this is all to do with feeling out of place. This idea of feeling out of place and scared of what you want to say promotes the video as being aimed at teenagers. These representations are typical of the media, to display youths as shy and unpopular, however we do this as part of our storyline to show how shy young people are with their boring everyday lives can change to express how they really feel in certain situations.

Final Draft

Here is our final music video. From the first draft we have added more footage, removed the pictures, better filming quality (no shakey camera etc).

Feedback of our first draft

Yesterday I presented our music video to the rest of our media group. They gave us some contructive critisicisium such as using straight cuts instead of fancy transistions all the time. Also make cuts smaller because they seem to go on a bit to long. The final bit of criticisium was that some shots were repetive. To over come this, we'll edit our video so that it has straight cuts and shooter clips. Dan will be able to walk again as of from next week so we will film some more footage so that we have more varaity of shots and footage so that our music video be as repetivive as our first draft.

First Draft Music Video

This is our first draft of our music video 'Nerd Love'. Due to unforeseen circumstances we had to use Windows Live Movie Maker. There is a lot more to be done. For example, we are going to put in footage where the pictures are and make a proper beach scene as well. We will also film a couple of extra bits so that we don't use the same clips throughout the video.

Problems With Editing

I had all the video clips put onto the school system so that I can use Adobe Premiere Pro, however when I went to open up the video clips on the software, it would say that the video clips are the wrong format for the software. This left a problem because I had to find another way of putting together the footage. I found a program on my laptop called Windows Live movie maker. This isn't as good as Premiere Pro, however it works well enough to put together a video.

Adobe Fireworks

The way in which our digipac was created was by Adobe Fireworks. We created certain sections of the digipac then placed them all together in an order as if it was a digipac

Plan B

This is the website for the artist Plan B.There isn't much to navigate around since there isn't a lot of content. In the centre of the page there is a video of one of Plan B's newest music video. This is done to present his work. Even though the website doesnt follow many of the codes and conventions of a website, it is clear, logical and it can be easily navigated, this may be because there isn't much on the homepage.

Linking Lyrics to the video

Here is a music video of Plan Bs 'She said' this is a good example of where the video matches the lyrics of the songs. We are going to do this in the majority of our song, the rest of our video will still include footage relating to the lyrics, but won't necessarly relate to the general storyline of the song.

Weebly

When we created our website, we used a site called Weebly.com, it is a free website creater which allows you to create simple websites which look effective.

Here is what the main page and a second page of our website, the links on the website have to work, but not have anything on them. We decided to add something to one of the other pages and leave then others blank.

Filming

Since the first draft has to be done by next thursday, we had to finish off filming. I have started to edit the footage with have so far, however we have a tiny bit of filming to finish.

Digipac

Here is our Final Digipac. It consists of six sides in total, three on the outside of the case and three on the inside of the case. It follows the conventions of a normal digipac. One convention is that the song titles are shown on the back of the case, either a logo, picture of the artist or a picture relating on the front of the digipac.

First Draft

Here is the very first draft of our website, we have a lot to improve, but with more planning, we can make improve and make it look better.

Website and digipak

While I add to the website, Dan is starting to create a digipak, giving each other help in places we need. We have found copyright free images for our digipak so that we dont use other peoples work.

Websites

Now that me and Dan have looked into various websites and how they are designed and the way that they are layed out. We decided to start our website. So far we have added in the links of the website. Next thing we have to do is create a picture for the hompage this picture will also appear on the Digipak. We also need to add text to the hompage which gives infomation about Maisie Mae, our artist who let us use her song.
