Planning and filming

We should be finished all the planning before the Christmas term and hopefully start filming in January, we have planned a trip to Primark to buy all the clothes needed for our actors/actresses. The reason we have chosen Primark is because it is cheap, we can get more for our money and we only need them for a short time. Me and Dan have agreed to let the actors/actresses to keep the clothes if they wish, since we wont have any need for them any more.

Cast and Crew list

Even though we still need to find actors/actresses for majority of the parts, we know what parts people will be playing and what people will be doing for camera work and other behind the scenes etc.

Maisie Mae ( we possible need two actresses to play her)
Eugene (again we need two if possible)
Friends of Maisie (between three and six actors)
Jocks(four to six actors)
Bullies(again between three and six)

Extras, these are not important and not essential to our filming, but if we can get enough actors then we can use them, however if we can't find enough actors then it doesn't matter.

The extras would include:
Cheerleaders
Goths
Boyfriends and Girlfriends

Here is a list of crew members:

2 x Cameramen - Me and Dan
Lighting - Tara Tilly
Hair Stylist - Kayley-Jayne Hughes
Make up artists - Kayley-Jane Hughes
Editors - Me and Dan

Tara and Kayley are friends of the group, but don't go to our school. however they have volunteered to help our group.

issues with filming

After Christmas, Dan is awaiting an appoint to have an operation on his knee, We will have to get majority of the filming done by then, however soon after Christmas I am expected to get a car, so if Dan has an operation then I can take him to where we need to go.

Location Scout

Like I mentioned in my last post, me and Dan went round our school and public library to find see the best places for our filming here are a couple of pictures to show the where we went.

Here are different shots of the Library.

Here are different shots of the school.

Permission and location scout

Yesterday me and Dan spent about an hour around our school and Library searching for ideal locations for our music video. We also had to get permission from our headteacher and the library to use their premises for filming. Mr Lord, our headteacher instantly said yes and agreed for us to do it. The library said yes, however since it is a public place we have to sign a contract to show that we can use the library for filming, as soon as they get hold of the contract and get it signed, we can go in and film.

Here is a photo I took of Dan and our head teacher Mr Lord to show that he has agreed for us to use the school premises.

Nerd Love Lyrics

Here are the lyrics of Nerd Love. We dicided to choose this song because of the lyrics. The lyrics are quite meaninful in terms of how a couple fall in love no matter what you look like or how you are as a person. This song shows that a normal girl falls in love with a nerd, even though people laughs at him, she still falls in love with. This song gives meaning of falling in love but has a comical side to it, this gives us an opportunity to give a proper video of two people falling in love but give it a funny twist to it as well.

Kasabian

The Kasabian's website design and layout is fairly clear and simple, this is good because it means it is easy to navigate. This website follows the normal codes and conventions in terms of layout and design. It is split into secments to make it easy for the user to navigate the website. For example, the main content (Kasabian) is placed in the centre of the webpage, this is done for promotional reasons. Also the website has navagational tools across the top of the page which take the user of the website to different pages of the website. There is no links to the right hand side of this website which is one of the codes & conventions in terms of the design and layout of a website. This website has a video in the centre of the websites homepage, this follows the technical codes of a website, these include pictures, videos etc. This website has a video as soon as you open the website. This is done to show and promote the band. Since this website has a music video on the homepage then it distinctly shows that it is for entertainment purposes and its codes and conventions show that it is a music related website. This website isn't the best in terms of layout it only has a few links at the top to take the audience to different sections of the website, most websites have a bit of information and pictures about the band/artist on the homepage, however this website only has a video to promote the band.

'Nerd Love' on Youtube

Maisie has put 'Nerd Love' on youtube, this is the song which have planned to use since we first started our A2 studies. We chose this song because of the lyrics which are used. We believe that the lyrics will help with making a fun but meaningful video.

Storyboard

We started to discuss what we want to do in our film so we printed a storyboard template off and then as we started to talk about what shots we will do etc Dan started to draw it out on the storyboard.

Green Screen

Last week we tested out our Green Screen it turned pretty well but could of gone a bit better, if the green screen had fewer creases in it.

Rihanna

This website follows the codes and conventions in terms of layout and design. Rihanna is in the centre of the screen. this is done because she is the singer and it promotes her better if there is a big picture of her on the screen. There are navagational tools on the top of the page and there are links on the left and right hand side of the picture(s) of Rihanna. Technical codes of this website is the changing pictures of Rihanna in the centre of the screen. With this website, there are codes and conevtions which makes it obvious to the audience that it is a music-related video, for example, it shows a big picuture of Rihanna in the centre of the page. This website uses codes to attempt to make the website appealing, an example of this is the changing pictures of Rihanna in the centre of the homepage.

Kaiser Cheifs

This is the Kaiser Cheifs official website. It follows the majority of codes and conventions in the terms of the layout and design. The main content is presented in the center of the page and the website can navigated easily. It is seperated into sections, this is done to help present the information. The links are together so the audience of the website can go to sepearate section of the website to gain more information on the band. This website uses technical codes which work well, for example they have pictures and also have a video on the homepage. Like all websites this website looks different to any other artist/band websites because they have a certain look/style which looks different to other bands. The website follows genre codes which helps the audience to recognise that it is a music website instead of any other website. This website uses certain codes to try and attempt to interact with their audience. This website include videos, twitter feed which the audience can publish their 'tweets' and it will appear on the the Kaiser Cheifs homepage.

Green Screen

Yesterday we tried out a Green Screen which we the school had brought for us to use.

Friday 7 October 2011

Presentation

Later on this lesson we are presenting three different ideas/story lines of the music video to the rest of the class. We will get feedback off the rest of the group. This will help us give a better idea of what an audience would want to watch in a music video.

Testing Green Screen

Last week me and Dan tried out a green screen. And that failed, However we found a curtain which is suitable for filming and didn't cause any problems while filming.

Letter to Students

We have a letter in which we will send to the students in the list which our head of performimg arts sent to us. It informs the student what we are doing and what we will like them to take part in.  The cpoy above is the one which we will send out to the students.

Green screen

We tried filming a green screen yesterday, however when uploading it onto the editing software it failed, it says that the pieces of film we used was in the wrong format. We are going to try again soon.

Thursday 29 September 2011

Extras

Seeing as me and Dan are not the only two going to be in the video, Dan emailed our head of performing arts for a group of younger students who is good at acting, dancing or both! He got a reply with a whole list of willing students who we can choose from.

Research into Websites

We have been looking at band/artists websites so we can get some ideas for our website design. We found out and looked into certain codes and conventions in which websites follow. Each website will have different codes and conventions depending on what they are promoting.
We found out that websites follow certain codes and conventions. When we create our website we will use a website called Weebly. We will create our website through the codes and conventions which most websites follow.

Things We need for our Music Video

For our music video we have thought to include other people that can use their skills from other areas to improve the quality of the music video. Antoher reason for wanting to get other people to do certain jobs for us is that if we have people doing jobs that may not be within our skill set we can focus more on making the video for our artist and concerntrating on the main task at hand. This can also give people and opportunity to get experience to help them improve their skills or even to put on their C.V.

The jobs we would like we have to do and need to sort out for our shoot include:
Make up and Hair artist of some kind
Actors to play both main roles and possible extras
Artist to help make props and paint the back drop
People to either help make or find costumes
People to help with odd jobs like controlling sound equipment who may be interested in a carrer with media

        Thursday 22 September 2011

Equipment needed for our music video

These are things we need in order to shoot our video and to make our video.

        1) We need a Facility to shoot our video, we need a setting which we can decorate it into however we want.
        2) We need Two Digital cameras to film our footage, one will record the actual music video and the other camera will be used to record behind the scenes footage, We will use the footage to upload onto the computer.
3)We will need a microphone to record the audio side of the video, the microphone in the video cameras wont be powerful or good enough to record what we want
4)We need a set of lights which can be used to place behind props and the camera to change the lighting this will help to change the conventions of the video
        5) We need to get a reflecter to reflect the lights around the set.

        Friday 16 September 2011

        Nerd love

Dan posted a page on  facebook to advertise to people so they can be in our music video , Once we have enough people to take part in it we will get everybody together and tell them the plan for the music video.

        'Nerd Love'

Out of Maisies songs we have chosen to pick 'Nerd Love', the reason for this song choice is because it is mine and Dans favourite song of Maisies.
Even though the songs are different we aim to use a similer idea of Scouting For Girls' love how it hurts video, We aim to use the idea of clothing and probs etc.

        Rock Videos

Seeing as the most popular answer in The poll I posted was 'Rock' We will be researching into the codes and conventions into rock songs and what kind of thing happens in a rock video.

Bon Jovi - Its My Life

        Thursday 15 September 2011

        Research into similer products

This is one of the latest tracks by Scouting For Girls. We are going to make a video with a similer aspect of this one, with a 'Nerdy' boy as the centeral character. We are  basing the main chracter on a nerdy person like this video this is because we chose a song which will work well with the song we have chosen. However the song we are using isn't similer to this Souting  For Girls song.

        Wednesday 14 September 2011

        Audience Research

I posted a Poll on Facebook to find out what kind of music people listen to. There was a range of different answers but the most popular choice was Rock music.

        Thursday 14 July 2011

        Contract.

Here is the contract which Dan created, which we all signed. It basically says that we can use one of Maisie's songs in our music video.

        Artist/Band

We have found someone who is in a band and they have agreed that we can use her music in our video.
Her name is Maise Mai, and she has a few tracks which we can choose from.
Here is a picture of Maisie  signing a contract which Dan created saying that we can use her music in our video.

Examples for Codes and Conventions of a Music Video

Hip Hop Video - 50 Cent

        Rock Video - Rolling Stones

        PoP Video - Lady GaGa

        Indie/pop - Kings of leon

        Dance Video - Lmfao

        R n B video - Rihanna

        Websites

Aswell as a Digipak, We have to create a homepage to a Website. We don't know how to create a proffesionally designed website, however our teacher gave a website where we can easily make a website.
Here are some examples of website homepages of bands/artists:

        Moodboards

Me and Dan thought of three different genres of music and made three moodboards to show the different artists/bands that come under that catergory.

        Heavy Metal

        Indie

        80's Rock

        Start of A2

For A2 we have to produce a music video, we also have to create a website homepage for the band we use and we also have to produce a cover for a digipack.
